In the graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke, the Joker shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon, the superheroine known as Batgirl. After years in a wheelchair fighting for justice as the computer expert called Oracle, Barbara regained the ability to walk. Dr. Letamendi advises comic book writer Gail Simone on trauma recovery and appears in comics as Barbara's therapist.
